Detached tire leads to a tragic accident on Indianapolis’s west side

Indianapolis, Indiana – The west side of Indianapolis was the scene of a fatal crash on Monday morning.

State Police Sergeant John Perrine detailed the series of events leading to the tragedy: “A vehicle on the westbound side of I-70 experienced the detachment of its rear driver side tire while in motion. This tire subsequently crossed the center median barrier, striking a small SUV.” He continued, “Following the impact, the SUV veered off the road, traveled approximately 300 yards down a ditch, and finally came to a halt in a nearby residential area.”

During this course of events, the SUV caused damage to several trees and a fence. Fortunately, no additional individuals were injured.

The individual who succumbed to their injuries at the location was the SUV’s driver.

Authorities have since secured the car from which the tire originated, and the investigation is ongoing.
