Motorcyclist killed in high-speed crash on Indianapolis highway ramp
Indianapolis, Indiana – An accident on a northeast Indianapolis highway ramp resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Saturday afternoon. Indiana State Police (ISP) have been actively investigating the crash, which has stirred concerns over road safety and speed regulations.
The accident occurred around 3:55 p.m. at the 37.4 mile marker of I-465, where emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck towing a trailer. Upon arrival, first responders discovered an unresponsive adult male in the right lane of the ramp from I-465 northbound to I-69 northbound, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
ISP’s preliminary findings suggest the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control, and collided with a guard rail on the side of the ramp. The force of the impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle, positioning him under the trailer being pulled by the pickup truck. The trailer subsequently rolled over the man, leading to fatal injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck cooperated with authorities, staying on scene to assist with the investigation. The ramp was closed for approximately three hours to allow for a thorough examination of the accident site. While initial investigations have pointed to excessive speed as a contributing factor, there was no immediate evidence to suggest impairment by either party involved in the crash.
State law mandates that the pickup truck driver undergo a test for intoxication, the details and results of which have not been disclosed by the ISP. The identity of the deceased motorcyclist is being withheld pending notification of his family.
