Indianapolis police respond to vehicle break-in, teen arrested

Indianapolis, Indiana – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police arrested a teenager on Tuesday morning following a vehicle chase and collision with a police car.

The situation unfolded when the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to reports of vehicle break-ins at 52nd Street and Bethel Road on the city’s northwest side. Upon arriving, officers located a car fitting the description of the suspect’s vehicle. However, when they attempted to stop the car, the situation escalated.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the driver of the suspect vehicle, later identified as a stolen 2011 Hyundai Elantra, attempted to flee. In the process, the driver rammed into a police car. This led to the apprehension of one individual involved in the incident.

The person taken into custody was a 16-year-old, arrested on multiple charges. These charges include theft, resisting law enforcement, and criminal mischief. Additionally, during the investigation, police recovered several items that were believed to be stolen.

A second individual, possibly a juvenile, was involved in the incident but could not be located despite a thorough search by the police.

The incident remains under active investigation as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the confrontation and collision. The arrest of the teenager and the recovery of stolen items mark significant progress in the case, but efforts continue to locate the second person and fully resolve the incident.
