Man killed in Indianapolis’ west side shooting over the weekend, police investigating

Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is looking into a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, on the city’s near west side.

Local law enforcement responded to a distress call at approximately 1 a.m. on June 4, in the vicinity of the 500 block of N. Pershing Ave. Upon their arrival, officers located a male victim who had succumbed to gunshot wounds. The man was declared deceased at the site of the incident.

The victim was later identified as 54-year-old Avery Lamont Turner by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

IMPD homicide detectives, in collaboration with the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency, meticulously collected forensic evidence at the scene. This crucial evidence will aid in the ongoing investigation to uncover the precise events leading to Turner’s untimely demise.
