Indianapolis Fire Department responded to fire at shopping center
Indianapolis, Indiana – In the early hours of Tuesday, fire crews rushed to Glendale Town Center on the north side following reports of a fire. The scene unfolded at the popular shopping center, located at 6101 N. Keystone Ave., where several fire units, including a ladder truck, were quickly deployed to address the emergency.
The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) received the initial call at around 4:05 a.m. and promptly arrived at the scene minutes later. The shopping center houses notable establishments such as Staples, the Glendale library branch, and Target, all of which were potentially at risk due to the fire.
The IFD revealed that the fire originated in a common area situated between the library and Staples. Upon entering the building, firefighters were met with heavy smoke in the hallway. Their efforts led them to a small fire located inside a utility room, which they discovered at around 4:40 a.m.
Fortunately, the building’s sprinkler system was activated, playing a crucial role in containing the fire in the utility room. By 5:11 a.m., the crews had successfully brought the fire under control, and after thorough searches, they sounded the all-clear at 5:15 a.m.
The IFD confirmed that no firefighters were injured during the operation. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, the damage was largely limited. The businesses in the building sustained some water damage, but most of the fire damage was confined to the utility room and the common hallway.
