Dozens arrested in massive north-central Indiana drug and firearms crackdown
Indianapolis, Indiana – Over 65 people have been arrested following a sweeping 15-month investigation targeting illegal drug trafficking, firearms possession, and illicit financial activity across north-central Indiana. The large-scale operation spanned four counties—Howard, Grant, Miami, and Fulton—and resulted in more than 200 criminal charges against those taken into custody, according to a news release issued by the Indiana State Police on Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials reported that over 20 search warrants were executed during the course of the investigation. The joint effort brought together multiple local, state, and federal agencies determined to disrupt the flow of narcotics and prosecute individuals contributing to the drug crisis gripping the region.
The seizures were substantial. Investigators confiscated around 3,575 grams of methamphetamine, 4,470 counterfeit fentanyl pills, 200 prescription pills, 120 grams of cocaine, 40 grams of heroin, 13 firearms, 11 bottles of the prescription medication sucralfate, and over $15,000 in cash. Authorities emphasized that the effort was part of a broader strategy to curb the movement of illegal drugs throughout Indiana and dismantle the networks behind them.
Local Charges Highlight Scope of Criminal Activity
Among those arrested, several individuals are facing serious charges tied to narcotics distribution.
In Howard County, Deonte Hall was charged with five counts of dealing methamphetamine—a top-level felony—alongside one count of unlawful carrying of a handgun.
In Grant County, Malachi Cook is facing four counts of dealing in cocaine or a narcotic drug, also a top-level felony. He was additionally charged with maintaining a common nuisance, which law enforcement described as “a continuous violation involving illegal drug activity.”
In Miami County, Kain Burthay was charged with four counts of dealing methamphetamine as well as one count of neglect of a dependent, a lower-level felony.
In Fulton County, authorities arrested Shawn Good, who faces three counts of dealing methamphetamine.
Officials noted that this operation is just one of many steps aimed at removing dangerous substances and firearms from Indiana communities. “This investigation demonstrates the ongoing effort to disrupt the transportation of illegal drugs through Indiana and to hold those involved accountable,” state police said in their release.
The investigation remains active, and further arrests or charges may follow.
