Arrest made in connection with a shooting incident on Indianapolis’ east side

Indianapolis, Indiana – A 28-year-old individual was apprehended on Monday in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on the eastern side of Indianapolis over the preceding weekend.

At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, law enforcement officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) promptly responded to a distress call concerning a gunshot victim in the vicinity of the 3700 block of North Shadeland Avenue, near East 38th Street. Subsequent to their arrival, the officers discovered a male victim who, according to the police’s evaluation, was in a stable condition before being transported to a nearby medical facility.

The diligent investigation carried out by IMPD’s aggravated assault detectives led to the identification of Tyree Gilbert as a prime suspect involved in the aforementioned shooting. Gilbert was taken into custody on Monday afternoon with the valuable assistance of IMPD’s Violent Crime Unit and SWAT team, as stated by the police.

Gilbert now faces preliminary charges that include aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and criminal recklessness. The formal charges in this case will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
